Position Title: Program Coordinator (part-time)
Position Location: Fully Remote (KAC is headquartered in Washington, DC with staff across the US, Japan and Europe)
Reports To: President

Professional Level: Entry level

Position Summary:

Kizuna Across Cultures, a 501(C) (3) organization, was established in Washington, DC in June 2011 by JET (Japan Exchange & Teaching) Program alumni and Japanese individuals inspired by the Great East Japan Earthquake. With our vision to promote meaningful international opportunities among a vast number of young people from all walks of life, KAC launched the virtual and bilingual exchange program Global Classmates in 2012 and has been a leading provider of virtual exchange for youth, connecting more than 16,000 students in both countries.

KAC seeks an entry-level part-time Program Coordinator to join our bilingual team to support the administration of our programs and grants. This position is fully remote with flexible hours. The Program Coordinator will provide programmatic and administrative support in all program functions including, but not limited to: preparation of grant proposals and reports; event planning, execution and follow-up; internal and external coordination and communication. Primary duties will involve supporting the administration and facilitation of the virtual Global Classmates Summit, taking place in July and August 2024.

This is a great opportunity to network in the U.S.-Japan field and get hands-on experience in running a non-profit organization in the international exchange field. This would also be a great opportunity for a master’s degree student who would benefit from remote work and flexible work hours, while gaining experience in the relevant field. The Program Coordinator will report to the executive director and program manager.

  • Ability to work and fulfill responsibilities in a timely manner under minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (KAC can not provide visa support; remote staff located outside the US must still be authorized to work in the US)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or, currently working on a Master’s degree, in a relevant field (Japanese Studies, International Relations, History, Political Science, or area studies relevant to Japan and Asia)
  • JET alumni or other experience teaching English to youth in Japan
  • Administrative support experience
  • Experience in event planning and execution
  • Experience with communications, social media, and marketing
  • Business level Japanese language
  • Graphic design experience (with Canva in particular)
  • Experience using Slack, Canvas, Google Drive, Salesforce, and/or WordPress

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Global Classmates Summit sessions
  • Provide support and guidance to Summit participants (US and Japanese high school students)
  • Assist in managing the Summit schedule
  • Create and share regular written communications with Summit participants
  • Provide administrative and programmatic support as directed by the President
  • Assist in drafting grant program proposals and reports
  • Create promotional materials for events
  • Create and post social media and website content related to grants and programs
  • Attend meetings and conferences with KAC staff and/or on behalf of KAC

Compensation and Benefits:

The hourly rate starts at $18 per hour, commensurate with experience, for 15 to 20 hours per week. Working hours are typically scheduled to occur within standard business hours (between Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm EST), but flexible scheduling is possible upon mutual agreement. The Program Coordinator will be expected to join some events, including the Summit, that are held outside of standard working hours. The position is fully remote; however, there will be opportunities to network and attend events in the Washington, DC area.
