Building Global Understanding Through Connected Classrooms

Kizuna Across Cultures (KAC) facilitates the online language and cultural exchange program Global Classmates for high school students studying Japanese in the U.S. and English in Japan. Taking place in their everyday classroom, students become classmates with their peers abroad and engage with each other through the exchange of messages, photos, and videos on a variety of topics, over the course of six-months exchange. The regular interaction is asynchronous and takes place on an online learning management website; however, some pairs try live video calls as well.

The curriculum is built on three pillars: 1) cultural exchange, 2) collaborative language learning, and 3) fostering international friendship, and is customized and implemented according to the needs of each school under the guidance of KAC’s bilingual Coordinators.

Application Overview

If you are interested in the program, please fill out the Application Inquiry Form and we will send you the application. Please note that the above deadline is the deadline for the application itself (not the inquiry form), so please make sure to inquire and complete the application in time.

Selection Process: After completing the application form, KAC staff will contact you via e-mail or by phone to schedule an interview. The selection results will be announced by mid-May.
